Novigrad (also known as Cittanova in Italian) is one of the northernmost towns on the Croatian coast, located at the very tip of the Istrian peninsula. Some may overlook it in favor of more famous Istrian destinations – such as Umag, Poreč and Rovinj – but Novigrad is full of charm, offers excellent accommodation options and numerous interesting sights. Novigrad is the ideal place if you want to enjoy the famous Istrian gastronomic delicacies!

The Church of St. Pelagius and St. Maximus is one of the main landmarks in the town. Located next to the main square, the church was mostly built before the 18th century and contains the only Roman crypt in Istria. The bell tower was built in 1883.

The Lapidarium Museum is relatively new and houses Roman artifacts found in the crypt of the Church of St. Pelagius. The museum also offers contemporary exhibitions and numerous events throughout the year. Opened in 2007, the Gallerion is a museum dedicated to maritime history and naval warfare.

Aquapark Istralandia

If you are staying in Novigrad with children (or maybe you are a child at heart yourself), the Istralandia water park is 7 km from the city and only 4 km from Villa Paolija.

Istralandia, located just 5 km from the coast, covers an area of 81,000 m² and offers the perfect combination of fun and adrenaline. The park has 20 different slides with more than 1.6 km of tubes, including steep and fast ones for the braver, as well as family slides with rubber boats. It also has the largest wave pool in this part of Europe.

It is intended for all ages, with a special children's tower for the youngest. Istralandia has won prestigious awards, including the recognition for the entrepreneurial project of the year in Rome (2014) and fifth place among the best water parks in Europe (2015 and 2016).
